Signal Boost: Kai Collart

Hello all!

A recent interviewee recently reached out and requested some help. Kai Collart is just a wonderfully talented fanartist (interview found here: Tumblr & WordPress). They need some help covering the cost of housing and medication. This is what’s written on their YouCaring page:

Hey guys, my name is Kai Collart. I need a little help. I need to move by August, and I need to save up first and last month’s rent. I’m currently between jobs, and struggling to pay my current rent. I also need to save up money so I can have time off after my top surgery. (I’m transgender, by the way, so this surgery is really important to me.) All of this is happening so fast, and I can’t afford to do this on my own. If I don’t have money to move by August, I’m not going to have a place to go, as my lease ends in August, and we can’t renew it, as the landlord is selling the house. I’m sorry to be asking for help, but I’m in a really tight spot. Thank you for your support!

IMPORTANT UPDATE!!!!

MY TESTOSTERONE ISN’T COVERED BY THE PHARMAHEALTHCARE PLAN, AND WILL ONLY BE COVERED IF I WAS A BIOLOGICAL MAN, AS STATED BY THE REQUIREMENTS. I NEED TO HAVE $80 BY FRIDAY, AND I DON’T HAVE ANY MONEY, I CAN’T EVEN BUY FOOD RIGHT NOW. PLEASE SHARE OR DONATE, THIS IS IMPORTANT FOR MY HEALTH.

He also requested I included this additional information in the signal boost: “ I am willing to write a short story of any kind for anyone who donates, as long as they let me know what they want written, as I have stated in my Tumblr post as well.”

Once again, here’s his YouCaring page:https://www.youcaring.com/kaicollart-1160920

So if you can help out an ace in need, I know that Kai would be just so incredibly grateful. And please share this as well. Let’s help an ace artist out 🙂

Thank you, everybody!

Small Signal Boost

Hi everyone!

I have another personal signal boost (which is also a kind of a site update). In the past, I’ve had some people express interest in supporting the work I do on Asexual Artists. I have been researching ways for people to do so, off and on. Patreon kind of goes over my head, so I was looking into alternatives. Ko-Fi seems to best option for me at the moment.

So yesterday I started a Ko-Fi page: https://ko-fi.com/laurenjankowski

I also posted a link with all the others in the links section on this site as well as with my own links in the Writers section.

I know money is super tight at the moment, so please don’t feel obligated. I won’t ever stop running this site or advocating for asexual artists.

Any small amount you can give is greatly, greatly appreciated. Really, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

In other news, I’m going to be starting a monthly newsletter. Something I’ve been neglecting for far too long. The first newsletter is going to be going out at the end of the month. It’s going to take me a bit to get into a rhythm (I’m terrified of doing this). The newsletter is just going to be writing news and I’ll probably give a shout-out to other ace authors every now and again.

Anyhow, I don’t really have a lot of subscribers at the moment, so if you’re interested in receiving updates on me and my writing, please sign up for the newsletter on my personal website: https://laurenjankowski.com/

Thanks, everybody! 🙂

Signal Boost: IDGAF Webseries

Hello all!

A future interviewee has an IndieGoGo Campaign that just opened and is looking to raise funds for a comedy series, created by ace POC and featuring ace POC.

Here’s the description of the series from the campaign page:

“I Don’t Give a F*ck is a dramatic comedy web series that centers on the perspective of two women of color who are trying to figure out how to navigate life and relationships from an asexual and sex-positive lense. It is a show that will not only further the already lacking visibility of asexual characters in mainstream media, but highlight other sexual and romantic spectrums that are often not discussed candidly. Crowdfunding this series will create the opportunity for these stories to be told.”

It’s no secret that the ace community has a real problem when it comes to centering white narratives. What little coverage of asexuality is in the mainstream tends to focus entirely on white asexual people. The community needs to do a better job boosting the voices of ace POC and supporting their work. Supporting a series like this is so important and it helps examine asexuality through a more intersectional lens. Plus, the series just sounds awesome and funny in general. It’s definitely something I’m going to watch.

Bottom line: getting this series funded is super important! So go there, donate, and signal boost the hell out of them! They deserve it 🙂

Thanks, everybody!

Thanks to a very generous donation yesterday, I not only reached my fundraising goal, I surpassed it! Check it out!

(I’m probably going to keep the fundraiser up until the start of October. I have a busy couple weeks coming up and I still have to write a couple thank you messages to donors.)

I’m absolutely overwhelmed at everyone’s generosity and I . . . I literally have no words! Gah! I’m sorry everyone! You know when you’ve gone through a rough patch and then receive unexpected good news and have like . . . no idea how to react or what to say? That’s pretty much me right now.

Happy dancing gifs aside: I promise you, that I will do my very best at this conference, on this panel. I promise that I won’t take this opportunity for granted. This site has always been, and will always be, for and about ace-identifying artists. It’s a way to amplify your voices. I take that responsibility very seriously.

I just . . . I’m so happy I have this opportunity. Rest assured, I will bring plenty of business cards with information about this site with me.

Thank you everyone! Thank you so very, very much! 🙂
